Would you like to have an AFCC-CA multi-disciplinary event in your local area that offers continuing education units?  To further benefit our members, our chapter is hoping to put on programs around the state in addition to our annual conferences.

AFCC-CA is now a continuing education provider through the California Psychological Association, so we can put on multiple programs in addition to our annual statewide conference.  Prior to 2016, the only provider for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for psychologists for our programs has been the parent/international AFCC (a provider through the American Psychological Association).  However, AFCC limits its assistance to chapters to one continuing education event a year.  We have always been able to get approval for MCLE units for attorneys attending our programs on an event-by-event basis.  Until 2015, we were a provider of CEUs for mental health professionals whose licenses are through the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), but BBS no longer provides these continuing education units.

As of 2016, we are approved through the California Psychological Association to offer CEUs that satisfy requirements for both the Board of Psychology and the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California, which opens up many new possibilities for our Chapter.  We remain committed to offering breadth of topics at our annual conferences as multiple-day events with nationally known experts speaking at the plenaries and a variety of workshops offered simultaneously.  Those conferences are big undertakings and must be located in more populous, accessible areas to make them financially possible.  We also hope to offer shorter and more focused programs-in diverse  areas.

Our Chapter’s goals include strengthening multi-disciplinary work in local areas, which brings family law professionals together to our high‐level continuing education programs.  We will be exploring ideas and interests in local programs.  If you are interested, please contact our administrator Merry Gladchun at mgafcc@gmail.com for the  Board’s consideration.  In addition,

Keep looking out for our great annual conferences that rotate between Northern and Southern California.
