Michelle Short
Hon. Michelle Short was appointed as a Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2018 and served as a Commissioner of the Court beginning in 2015. Judge Short has been assigned to both the Court’s Family Law Division and the Criminal Division. She is an adjunct professor at the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.
In addition to her undergraduate and law degrees, Judge Short also has a Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology. Prior to being a bench officer, Judge Short was a lawyer in private practice, focusing on all aspects of family law, including the representation of neurodiverse and neurotypical children.
During her time with the Court, Judge Short has organized, moderated and spoken at local and national conferences and judicial education programs on a wide variety of topics, among them eliciting testimony from children; serving as Minor’s Counsel.
