Arati Vasan, a Senior Attorney at Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP), has been an attorney in family law for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking since 2009. Prior to joining FVAP in 2018, Arati was a Staff Attorney with Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO). She led the Domestic Violence Family Law Project and focused on language access services, trauma-specific representation, cultural responsiveness in serving survivors of violence. She has co-chaired the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium. She was active with the San Francisco Police Department Language Access Working Group. The Group developed protocols to improve law enforcement interactions with survivors of violence and worked with Child Protective Services to improve protections for survivors who were cross reported. Arati was a faculty member for the Vera Institute for Justice Translating Justice curriculum and a consultant for Casa de Esperanza. Prior to APILO, Arati had her own family law practice and volunteered at Bay Area Legal Aid. Arati is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Law.
