James Bertoli
Hon. James G. Bertoli is the Supervising Family Law Judge for Sonoma County Superior Court and has been on the bench since 2001. Judge Bertoli served as faculty for California Judicial Education and Research teaching courtroom management, domestic violence, and family law and has been on the CJER Family Law Curriculum Committee and the CJA Family Law Committee. He teaches at the Stanford Law School Trial Advocacy program. He chairs the California Judges Association Judicial Elections Committee.
Judge Bertoli is a fourth-generation native of Sonoma County educated at Santa Rosa JC, holds a BA in Economics from UC Davis and a JD from University of San Francisco and practiced family and labor law with Wotring & Byrne, was managing partner of Byrne & Bertoli and ran a solo practice until his election to the bench.
Judge Bertoli is Past-President of the Richard M. Sangster Inn of Court, Past-President of the 4-H Foundation of Sonoma County, and a player in the Redwood Empire Baseball League where he participated the Men’s Senior Baseball World Series.
