This workshop will explore developmental issues and the application of research to assessing children in legal cases in which children can be victims, witnesses, and perpetrators. The presentation will review recent literature in language, cognitive development, children’s memory and reliable interviewing techniques. Case presentations will illustrate application.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to state the specific legal venues in which children appear and state the roles in which children appear in those venues.
- Participants will be able to state at least three areas of research relevant to children in the legal system.
- Participants will be able to state specific risks in interviewing children that should be avoided.
